Adopt a piece of the ocean floor - make history.

Map the Gaps is releasing 1,000 hex tiles in a secret location that are approximately 1 sq. km. each.

Your $100 (or more) adoption of an ocean hex tile:

  • allows us to map your hex tile in 2026 revealing never seen before ocean floor

  • gives you a custom map of your hex tile and any discoveries made

  • credit for discoveries made inside your ocean hex tile

All data that we collect is shared with Seabed 2030.

How does your donation impact help to map the gaps?

  • Map the Gaps works with partners worldwide to map the ocean floor for actionable conservation information. Our efforts could multiply exponentially if we had our own equipment to bring to our partnerships. Not only would we be more self-sufficient, but we would also be able to speed up the process of mapping and achieve our goal to democratize ocean data.

  • Your donations support our high-level computing by assisting in providing computing and human resources to get the job done.

  • It takes time and effort to bring together the best of the best in ocean mapping, and your gifts allow us to continue to make the connections between experts and mapping opportunities, thereby democratizing and increasing successful ocean mapping.

  • We are the only global nonprofit focused on ocean floor mapping and committed to providing open-access data for conservation. We have the largest network of experts in the field of ocean mapping from our relationship with Nippon Foundation/GEBCO Training Program alumni and we are able to provide access to the best experts and practitioners. Our future depends on our ability to visualize and understand the sea floor and your investment in MTG translates to tangible, critical, and accessible data procurement.
